The Dental Advisor has given ACTIVA BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE 5 plus (+++++) and a 98% clinical performance rating after the second year of a long-term clinical trial. Clinicians evaluated 158 restorations at the two-year recall. Performance results were calculated based on six criteria: lack of postoperative sensitivity, esthetics, resistance to fracture and chipping, resistance to marginal discoloration, wear resistance, and retention.

The 158 recalled restorations were placed with and without the use of bonding agent after etching, and included one, two, three and four surface restorations.
One evaluator found that ACTIVA BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE “bonded well without a bonding agent” while another noted that “the esthetics were excellent at 2 years.”
No patients reported any post-operative sensitivity at the two-year recall and 99% of the restorations exhibited no signs of wear. The retention rate was over 99% and over 97% of the restorations resisted marginal discoloration.
ACTIVA BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE is the first esthetic bioactive restorative material. This versatile bioactive composite can be used for single restorations, full mouth composite rehabilitation, and according to one Dental Advisor evaluator, “as a core in teeth with deep decay.” The same evaluator felt that “the uptake of [Calcium, Phosphate and Fluoride] could have a positive effect on these cases” with deep caries.
ACTIVA BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE received an overall rating of “Excellent” in the Dental Advisor’s Two-Year Clinical Performance Report.
